Senior Manager – Knowledge and Learning

At the Brotherhood of St. Laurence (BSL), we are seeking a passionate Senior Manager – Knowledge and Learning to join our dedicated Research, Policy and Advocacy team.

Location: Fitzroy, Victoria
Job Type: Part-Time working 22.8 hours per week
Salary: $122,960.12 to $128,093.62 to per annum, based on skills and experience plus 12% superannuation (pro-rata for part-time employment)

About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity to develop the knowledge and learning function for the Brotherhood of St. Laurence (BSL).
The Senior Manager – Knowledge and Learning oversees the BSL Library, including development of its collections, partnerships, and broader research and learning services function. The role is critical in establishing the Library as an enabler of community and organisational knowledge, research, learning and capacity-building.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Establish and promote the BSL Library as an enabler of community and organisational knowledge, research, learning and capacity-building through the development and provision of specialist information, research and learning services.

  • Oversee and develop a relevant, accessible, high-quality and dynamic Library catalogue.

  • Ensure the preservation and curation of BSL’s archival collections to support organisational culture and provide public benefit.

  • Oversee research and policy evidence searches, systematic reviews, and resource development around BSL’s history and foundational frameworks.

  • Lead, support and mentor staff and volunteers, fostering a collaborative, high-performing and inclusive culture.

What we are looking for:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual who is passionate about supporting BSL’s mission and delivering excellence in their role.

Key skills and experience:

  • Tertiary qualification or specialised training in library and information science/management, conferring eligibility for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).

  • Minimum of 10 years’ relevant professional experience.

  • Extensive experience managing a library service or information centre in a social policy or research setting.

  • Expertise in research and information services, including conducting systematic reviews and preparing reports for stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of archival management and recordkeeping as per Australian Society of Archivists (ASA) standards.

  • Highly developed digital literacy and expertise in digital library management systems such as KOHA and DSpace.

  • Understanding of Australian Copyright law in library and research settings.

  • Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to build high-functioning, collaborative teams.
