Senior Policy Officer - Disability

At Brotherhood of St. Laurence (BSL), we are seeking a passionate Senior Policy Officer - Disability to join our dedicated team.

Location: Fitzroy

Job Type: Maximum Term Full-Time working 38 hours per week until 30 June 2027

Salary: $113,391.33 to $118,710.13 per annum, based on skills and experience plus 12% superannuation.

About the role

The Senior Policy Officer - Disability helps shape the development of the disability policy, research and advocacy agenda across BSL. The role sits within a wider inclusion agenda and ensures disability and the experience of people with disability is embedded across all of BSL’s policy and research work.   

  • Lead the development of a collaborative disability focused policy agenda with RPA and Disability Services team staff
  • Undertake research and analysis to inform policy and research outputs
  • Contribute to broader policy development, influencing and advocacy activities within BSL, particularly as they relate to disability.
  • Contribute to the identification and development of funding sources and partnership opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key policy and other relevant organisations and individuals to foster opportunities for advocacy and knowledge transfer

What we are looking for

To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone who has the following key skills and experiences:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in research, policy and advocacy
  • Developed knowledge of the field of disability policy, and preferably disability employment or early years, including current issues and debates in research and policy.
  • Experience in policy roles in government, the community sector or disability sector
  • Demonstrated project management and organisational skills, including the ability to plan workload, prioritise and meet deadlines.
